How to copy a table from a website into Excel or Google Sheets

The manual way

Select the table with your mouse, copy, and paste into the sheet. This works for simple tables but often breaks columns when the table has merged cells, links or hidden rows.

In Google Sheets you can also use the formula =IMPORTHTML("page URL", "table", 1). It only works for public pages that don’t need a login, and the number picks which table on the page.

With TableSnap

  1. Open the page with the table.
  2. Click the TableSnap icon. It lists every table it found, with its size.
  3. Click Copy next to the one you want.
  4. Paste into Sheets or Excel. Columns stay in place, and merged cells are expanded.
